Heya, @85a8f7d564c0478ca36eacb63250d2

SSL certificates are issued for domain names, not IP addresses. So you don’t get an SSL certificate for the static IP itself.

If you’re using DigitalOcean App Platform or a DigitalOcean Load Balancer, SSL can be managed automatically by DigitalOcean (via Let’s Encrypt).

If you’re running your own Droplet, you typically install a free Let’s Encrypt certificate on the server (using Certbot).

Hope that this helps!

Hi there,

SSL certificates are tied to domains, not directly to IP addresses.

You don’t get the certificate from where your domain is hosted, but from a certificate authority. The good news is that DigitalOcean makes this very easy.

If your domain is pointing to a DigitalOcean service (Droplet, Load Balancer, or App Platform), you can use free Let’s Encrypt certificates through DigitalOcean:

So the flow is: point your domain’s DNS to your DigitalOcean IP or service, then issue the SSL certificate on the DigitalOcean side.
